ABOUT US

Chapel Hill Woodturners (CHWT) is a non-profit club founded in 2011 whose purpose is to promote the craft and art of creative woodturning. The CHWT facility is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where members assemble to turn wood and exchange concepts and techniques that transform natural wood materials into objects of practical use and aesthetic beauty.

In addition to developing the woodturning skills of its members, CHWT offers hands-on workshops to non-members that cover basic to advanced instruction in woodturning and the application of creative enhancements like dyeing and coloring, texturing and spiraling, multi-axis turning, lamination, and tool sharpening and maintenance. CHWT also provides weekly “open turning” sessions at a minimal charge to non-members, as well as an on-line gallery of members’ turnings, instructional publications, lathes, and an array of machinery, tools and materials.

Finally, CHWT is also committed to public service by regularly offering demonstrations, donations of turned artifacts for fund raising, and hands-on woodturning  at no cost to non-profit medical and charitable organizations.
