Turning Tops For Kids

Several times per year, members of the Chapel Hill Woodturning Club bring their lathes to hospitals and other venues to demonstrate top turning to young patients. The kids each receive a top of their own and some guidance in decorating it. They also watch as members turn tops for those who like them custom made. The photo shows a turning demonstration at Camp Kaleidoscope during the summer of 2014. Pictured are Cecil Sparrow and Bob Verne at the lathes and Mike Salemi explaining the process. (Note: Turning Tops For Kids was put on hold during the Covid pandemic. Hopefully this project will start up again soon.)
